KABUL: Following the ongoing repatriation of Afghan refugees from Iran and Pakistan, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has requested increased funding to support returnees. In a statement today, UNAMA warned that a new emergency situation is emerging. The organization noted that thousands of refugees are being expelled daily and are left stranded at the borders. UNAMA stated that humanitarian organizations are working to manage the situation but require significant funding. They emphasized that the reintegration of returnees into society will pose a major challenge. Taliban officials reported that since the beginning of the current calendar year, over one million Afghans have been repatriated from Iran alone. The Iranian government has recently accelerated the repatriation process, raising concerns about human rights.
