KABUL: An institution named “Afghanistan Free from Polio” has announced that a new polio vaccination campaign will commence on Monday, across various regions of Afghanistan. According to the organization’s statement, the aim of the program is to prevent the spread of the polio virus and protect children’s health throughout the country. It remains unclear how many children will be vaccinated during this campaign. Based on data from the World Health Organization, two positive cases of polio have been identified this year in Badghis and Helmand provinces. The organization also reported that 18 positive cases of environmental poliovirus have been recorded, including eight in Kandahar, six in Helmand, and one each in Laghman, Kabul, Nangarhar, and Zabul provinces. Currently, Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only countries in the world where the polio virus has not been eradicated.
