WASHINGTON: U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Tom Brooks has announced that Syria and Israel have agreed to a ceasefire mediated by the United States. He noted this morning on his X that several countries, including Turkey and Jordan, have welcomed the ceasefire between Syria and Israel. The announcement follows Israeli airstrikes on Syria’s Defense Ministry and several areas after clashes between groups in the southwestern region of Syria, known as Suwayda. The strikes were strongly condemned by the international community and several Arab nations, which viewed them as a blatant violation of Syrian sovereignty. In response to the Israeli attacks, the leader of Syria’s interim government, Ahmad al-Sharaa, stated that they are not afraid of war but prioritize peace for the safety of the Syrian people over destruction. According to international media reports, efforts to establish a ceasefire between the two neighbors had been underway for the past two days, involving various countries, including the United States.
