KABUL: Following the recent detention of a number of girls by Taliban Muhtasibin (enforcers) in Kabul, concerns about escalating restrictions on women have intensified, leading some families to limit their daughters’ movements. Women in Kabul have reported that their presence in society has been affected by fears of potential arrests. Many families have restricted their daughters’ outings to avoid similar issues. These concerns have arisen after videos went on viral on social media last Wednesday, showing women gathering in protest against Taliban forces, asking tearfully, “Where have you taken our children?” Additionally, the “Freedom of Afghanistan” front issued a warning in response to the detention of girls and women in Kabul, stating that they will target the Taliban’s Ministry of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice workers going forward. Human rights organizations have repeatedly condemned the restrictions placed on girls and women in Afghanistan.
