WASHINGTON: Finance ministers from the G20 countries are gathering today, Thursday, in South Africa to discuss the threats posed by the high tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump and other global issues. South Africa is hosting the meeting under the theme of “Unity, Equality, and Sustainability,” with a strong focus on the rising cost of investment and financial support for combating climate change. U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin will not attend this meeting for the second time; instead, Washington will be represented by Michael Kaplan. Reports indicate that finance ministers from India, France, and Russia have not participated at the meeting. President Trump has deepened global issues by imposing a new 10% tariff on imports.
