KABUL: Ahmad al-Sharaa, the head of the Syrian Transitional Government, emphasized today, Thursday, that protecting the lives of Druze citizens in southern Syria is a top priority for his government. Rejecting any foreign intervention, he stated, “We are not afraid of war, but we prioritize our people’s interests over chaos and destruction. If the dignity of our people is threatened, we are ready to defend.” The remarks come in the wake of extensive Israeli airstrikes on Damascus, Daraa, and Suwayda, which resulted in at least 40 casualties. In his statement, al-Sharaa condemned the Israeli attacks, calling them a destabilizing factor for the region. Meanwhile, Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Taliban, described the attacks as “blatant aggression” and a “systematic crime” against Syrian sovereignty and regional stability, urging the international community to take responsible action. In response to these developments, the United Nations Security Council is set to hold an emergency meeting on Thursday to assess the implications of the Israeli airstrikes on Syria. Syria has formally requested the Council to intervene immediately and prevent this blatant violation of international law. As tensions rise in southern Syria and concerns grow within the Druze community, the security situation in the region has become more critical, leaving the prospects for regional stability uncertain.
