WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump expressed hope that negotiations between Israel and Hamas aimed at establishing a ceasefire in Gaza will commence next week.
The United States supports a proposal for a 60-day ceasefire, which would include the gradual release of Israeli hostages, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from certain areas of Gaza, and discussions to resolve the ongoing crisis.
Trump informed reporters yesterday that talks are ongoing, and he is optimistic about progress being made in the coming week.
This comes amid reports from Gaza health officials stating that an Israeli airstrike killed eight people, including children, and injured many others.
Reports indicate that these children were killed at a water distribution center.
The Israeli military stated that they targeted a member of the Islamic Jihad group in the area but acknowledged that due to an error, the missile missed its intended target and struck several meters away.
