PARUN: For the first time, a kilogram of ruby has been extracted in Nuristan.
Local Taliban officials have reported that this ruby was mined from the Peshork mine in the Barg-e Matal district.
According to a statement from the Taliban governor’s office in Nuristan, the ruby was sold through a bidding process for 100,000 Afghanis.
Additionally, the Taliban’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum announced that a bidding process for precious and semi-precious stones took place recently, resulting in the sale of 165 kilograms of birouj for 120 million Afghanis.
The ministry indicated that the Taliban’s share of this amount was 12%.
Currently, mining operations are ongoing in dozens of mines in Nuristan, employing hundreds of workers. However, professionals in the field have criticized the situation, noting that many mines are not being mined professionally, leading to the loss of valuable stones.
Nuristan is known for its extensive deposits of semi-precious stones, including birouj and emeralds.
