KABUL: Afghan businessman and investor Mirwais Azizi has pledged to provide financial assistance of $500,000 to 95 Afghan students at the American University of Central Asia (AUCA) in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, who lost their scholarships from the U.S.
Azizi announced on July 12 on his X social media platform that these students were facing serious challenges after the suspension of U.S. financial aid and were at risk of dropping out of their studies.
After learning about their situation, Azizi traveled from Dubai to Bishkek, where he signed an official agreement with AUCA to ensure that the students receive full financial support to continue their education.
He mentioned that the total estimated costs for the fees and related expenses for these 95 students is around $500,000.
Azizi’s humanitarian initiative has received widespread praise on social media, with many considering it a clear example of social responsibility and a deep commitment to supporting the Afghan youth.
In his post, Azizi stated, “I did this to keep the light of hope and opportunity alive for Afghan youth.”
This action comes at a time when many international organizations are reducing educational aid programs in Afghanistan, highlighting that wealthy Afghans can also bring about meaningful change.
