WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump, announced on Monday evening, on his X account that Iran and Israel have reached a complete ceasefire after twelve days of conflict.

According to the agreement, Iran will first halt its attacks for 12 hours, followed by Israel for the same duration, establishing a full ceasefire.

Trump congratulated both countries for their “resilience, courage, and wisdom” in ending the twelve-day war, adding that the conflict could have lasted for years and devastated the Middle East.

However, Iran has not yet officially stated its position regarding the agreement. Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, wrote on X: “If Israel halts its attacks by 4: AM on Tuesday, we have no intention of continuing our response.” He added that there is currently no formal agreement regarding a ceasefire or the cessation of military operations, and a final decision will be announced later.

Israeli media reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed his cabinet ministers not to comment on Trump’s post regarding the ceasefire on “Truth Social.”

Reports indicate that the ceasefire was brokered by Qatar following a phone call from Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the Qatari Prime Minister, to Iranian officials.

This call reportedly took place after Trump requested the Emir of Qatar’s assistance in satisfying Tehran.

Meanwhile, Trump described Iran’s missile attack on the Al Udeid airbase in Qatar as “very weak,” stating that out of 14 missiles, 13 were intercepted and no Americans were harmed.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused Western countries of unconditional support for Israel and affirmed Iran’s right to self-defense as legitimate and lawful.

Reports suggest that despite the announcement of a ceasefire agreement, retaliatory attacks between Iran and Israel continue.
