An Iranian man arrested for murder of Afghan migrant girl Kobra Rezayee

TEHRAN: Iranian authorities have announced the arrest of a 32-year-old man accused of murdering Kobra Rezayi, an Afghan migrant girl.

The incident occurred in the city of Pishva, southeast of Tehran, according to reports from Iranian media.

Akbar Arabi, the police chief of Pishva, stated on Friday, that the suspect was identified and apprehended following intelligence and police operations.

During investigations, he reportedly confessed to the murder and has been sent to prison.

Reports indicate that Kobra Rezayee went missing about 50 days ago. After several weeks of searching, her dismembered body was discovered in a residential home.

Sources indicate that the suspect attempted to destroy the body using acid.

According to the news website “Entekhab,” the accused is a married man who worked as a security guard in a factory in the Pakdasht area of Tehran.

He claimed during questioning that he became enraged upon learning about Kobra Rezayee’s engagement and subsequently committed the murder.

Previously, the human rights organization Hengaw reported the discovery of the mutilated body of a 26-year-old Afghan girl in Iran, stating that her family had not yet received permission to hold a funeral.

Additionally, the Taliban reacted a few days after this murder became public, calling for a serious and just investigation of the case by the judicial authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
