KABUL: Roya Mahboob, one of the co-founders of the Afghan Girls Robotics Team, has been awarded the Courage Award by the Liberty Science Center in New Jersey, USA, in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

In a post on her X account, she expressed gratitude to the Liberty Science Center.

Roya Mahboob stated: “This award does not belong to me alone, but to every girl who, despite imposed limitations, has the courage to pursue education; to every team that has succeeded in building robots with limited resources and to every girl who does not see herself as a victim of circumstances but envisions a future as a specialist, engineer, or innovator.”

The Liberty Science Center had previously announced that it would hold the 13th annual

“Genius Gala” on May 23, where four leading figures in various fields would be honored.

Roya Mahboob was also recognized in 2013 by

TIME magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
