ISTANBUL: Leaders of Turkic countries have issued a joint declaration calling for the establishment of an inclusive government in Afghanistan, respect for human rights, and a commitment to combating terrorism and drug trafficking.
The President of Kyrgyzstan highlighted the need for peace and stability in Afghanistan, stating that his country supports effective actions for sustainable development in the region. No Sadyr Japarov remarked, “In a challenging region, political coordination and regional cooperation are vital. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s statement indicates Kyrgyzstan’s interest in peace and security in Afghanistan.”
During this informal meeting, foreign ministers were asked to monitor the situation in Afghanistan. Turkic countries advocated for sustainable global engagement with Afghanistan.
The declaration stated, “Encouragement of a representative government reflecting the diversity of the Afghan people, respect for the fundamental rights of citizens, and a firm fight against terrorism are essential to prevent the use of Afghan territory by terrorist groups.”
In response, the Taliban expressed a desire for good relations with Turkic countries and regarded the formation of an inclusive government as an internal matter. Zabihullah Mujahid stated, “Afghans will address their internal issues, and the demands of the people will be considered.”
Political analyst Muheen Gul Samkani commented, “We have our own mechanisms and are calling for a Loya Jirga. Foreign countries should not explicitly make such demands.”
The Organization of Turkic States was founded in 2009 and currently includes eight member countries.
