KABUL/MEHTERLAM: Taliban officials have announced that 21 individuals have been publicly lashed in Kabul and Laghman provinces.
According to two statements released by the Taliban’s Supreme Court, the individuals were convicted of “illicit relationships,” “theft,” and
“drug trafficking.” The punishments were carried out yesterday (Saturday), with 11 people in Kabul and 10 others in Laghman receiving lashes in public.
Each of the defendants has also been sentenced to five to six years in prison based on the nature of their crimes.
In response to these punishments, human rights organizations have once again expressed their concerns, emphasizing that the execution of such penalties in public constitutes a clear violation of human rights.
