WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened that if Apple does not produce its iPhones in the United States, a 50% tariff will be imposed on all European imports, along with a 25% tariff specifically on iPhones.
In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump stated, “Our talks with them are getting us nowhere! Therefore, I propose a 50% tariff on the European Union that will take effect on June 1 of this year. There will be no tariffs on products made in the U.S.”
This hefty tariff is expected to apply to modern goods, pharmaceuticals, and other products from European countries.
According to a report by Reuters, Poland’s Minister of Trade, Michał Baranowski, described Trump’s threat as part of ongoing tensions between the two sides, emphasizing that there is time for discussions between the EU and the U.S. until July.
Trump also warned Apple that if iPhones are not manufactured in the United States, they will face a 25% tariff.
