Iran-U.S. nuclear talks in Rome conclude with some progress

ROME: The fifth round of discussions between Iran and the United States regarding Tehran’s nuclear program concluded on Friday, June 2, in Rome, Italy, with mediation from Oman.
According to Oman’s foreign minister, the talks lasted for two hours and ended with “some progress, but without a final result.”
Delegations from both countries aimed to reach an agreement on limiting Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for a reduction in U.S. sanctions.
While Iran insists on its right to enrich uranium, the U.S. views this as a major obstacle to reaching an agreement.
U.S. officials described the negotiations as “constructive,” stating that both sides plan to meet again soon.
Concurrently, the U.S. imposed new sanctions on Iran’s construction sector, which drew a negative response from Tehran.
The talks took place against a backdrop of increasing tensions, including threats from Israel against Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Tehran has warned that any attack from Israel would carry shared responsibility with the U.S.
