VATICAN: Pope Leo XIV, the new leader of the world’s Catholics, urged immediate humanitarian assistance for Gaza during his first public address on Wednesday, May 21, in St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican, according to the Associated Press.
He stated, “I sincerely request that humanitarian aid be allowed into the Gaza Strip and that hostilities, which children, the elderly, and the sick pay the heartbreaking price for, come to an end.”
The Vatican reported that around 40,000 people gathered to hear his speech, which took place just days after approximately 200,000 attended the inauguration ceremony of Pope Leo XIV, the first American pope in history.
