General Asim Munir promoted to Field Marshal; second Marshal in Pakistan’s History

The government of Pakistan has promoted General Sayed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff, to the rank of Field Marshal due to his leadership in recent military operations against India.

According to Pakistani media, the decision was approved during a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The official statement noted that this promotion was awarded for his “brave leadership and excellent strategy during Operation Bunyam Marsoos.”

Asim Munir becomes the second individual in Pakistan’s history to achieve this military rank, following Muhammad Ayub Khan, the former president, who attained the title in 1959.

Operation Bunyam Marsoos was launched in response to India’s Operation Sindoor, targeting positions in Indian-administered Kashmir.

The clashes continued untill evening, and with the mediation of the United States, both sides agreed to an immediate ceasefire.
