Kabul: A recent study suggests that elders who use smartphones and digital devices experience cognitive decline at a slower rate.
The research, which analyzed data from over 400,000 individuals aged 50 and above across 57 scientific studies, found that those who regularly use technologies such as computers, smartphones, and the internet exhibit less cognitive decline compared to those who use them less frequently.
These findings challenge the theory of “digital dementia,” which posits that excessive use of technology leads to decreased mental capacity in older age.
Dr. Jared Benge, a neuroscientist from the University of Austin in Texas, stated that this research offers a hopeful message for a generation that has grown up with technology.
He and other experts emphasize that proper use of technology can keep the brain active, enhance social relationships, and prevent cognitive decline.
