KABUL: The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced the distribution of vitamin and mineral tablets to 50,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women in Kabul, to enhance women’s health and reduce anemia among mothers.
In a message on social media today, UNICEF stated that this program is funded by the European Union, and the distribution process is currently underway in Kabul.
According to the organization, the vitamin and mineral tablets will help address issues related to iron deficiency, anemia, and other problems arising from food shortages for expectant and breastfeeding mothers.
UNICEF statistics indicate that approximately 2.5 million girls in Afghanistan will receive folic acid (iron) tablets in 2025 due to the risk of anemia.
Afghanistan is one of the countries where a significant number of women, particularly during pregnancy, face anemia and malnutrition.
In the absence of comprehensive healthcare services, the support from international organizations plays a crucial role in the health of mothers and children.
UNICEF has been actively working in recent years to improve nutrition and support for mothers and children in Afghanistan, implementing extensive projects in this sector.
