KABUL: The International Mother’s Day, coincides with May 11, the day is celebrated around the world, but in Afghanistan, this day is marked especially to honor the high status of mothers within Afghan society.
For nearly three years, this day has been observed while many mothers have taken to the streets due to poverty and hardship, begging to ensure their children’s survival.
In Afghanistan’s traditional and conservative society, many mothers are forced into difficult labor, they can often be seen running small carts or polishing shoes, while many women are engaged in cleaning homes or domestic work.
A significant number of these women are breadwinners of their households and are currently facing severe challenges.
