MOSCOW: In a joint meeting between President Vladimir Putin of Russia and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, both leaders underscored the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and strategic cooperation.
In a joint statement, they warned that the risk of nuclear war has increased amid rising global tensions.
Putin and Xi also called for resolving crises through diplomacy and political means, particularly regarding the Iranian nuclear issue and the crisis in Ukraine.
They emphasized the need to counter NATO and Washington’s efforts to expand influence in Asia and form hostile coalitions against Russia and China.
To bolster their economic ties, Russia and China agreed to increase the use of their national currencies in bilateral trade.
Xi Jinping is set to remain in Russia until May 10 and will participate in the Victory Day celebrations.
