KABUL: Tom Fletcher, the United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, recently visited Afghanistan, where he met with Taliban officials in Kabul and Kandahar.
The main focus of these meetings was to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, the repatriation of refugees from Pakistan, and the challenges related to women’s rights.
Fletcher described the situation for Afghan women as “difficult” and strongly criticized the restrictions on their education and social participation.
He emphasized that without the full participation and education of girls, development in Afghanistan would not be possible.
During his visit, Fletcher also stressed the importance of humanitarian aid and the need for global cooperation to address the humanitarian crises in Afghanistan.
