The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has reported that the newborn mortality rate in Kandahar province is higher than the national average.
UNICEF stated on its X page that the cessation of aid poses a serious threat to the lives of children.
The organization provides medicines and medical supplies for newborns in the province from the first day of their birth.
Meanwhile, Tom Fletcher, the Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs at the United Nations, has said that the halt of aid to Afghanistan is akin to a death sentence for millions of people.
Fletcher noted that in recent months, nearly 400 health centers have closed their doors due to a lack of assistance, leaving over three million people without access to healthcare services.
The cessation of U.S. aid to Afghanistan has led humanitarian organizations to face budget cuts, putting them on the brink of closing their offices.
